Google command line Interfaces from Past

We have already seen an official command line google product, googlecl, but this is not the only one. There have always been shell lovers who tried to bring this Web Giant on a console. Here are a couple of command line applications, goose and goosh, to interface with Google search, which btw googlecl doesn't support.

Goose

Back in 2003, Jon McClintock developed a command line GOOgle SEarch tool, goose. Run the command along with the search term and it will display the results in a curses based interface to ease navigation. Then you can select a search result to be opened in the web browser of your choice. This doesn't sound much for a console based app but this was probably the first attempt to bring a prominent web facility on a shell.

Goosh

Next comes the generation of Web 2.0. Web Developer Stefan Grothkopp designed a web based shell to interface Google Search, named Goosh(GOOgle SHell) in 2008.

This was a great application with a wonderful design interface to ease your searches. If you are not looking for any advanced searching, this might really quicken your search. May be this is what motivated the developers to come up with googlecl.

You can use Lynx browser for browse from terminal.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_(web_browser)
